How to remove the grab handles near the headrest on a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II?

I know how to remove the headrests, but is there a way to remove the hard handle looking things that touch the headrest? I want to install DVD headrests and I can not find any that with fit inside the width of those hard handles. So I would like to just remove them, if you can. Any help would be nice. Thanks
